The first half of BioShock Infinite‘s upcoming Burial at Sea downloadable content is set to arrive on November 12, 2013, as 2K and Irrational Games confirm. The first of two episodes will be available on that day for all platforms you can play Infinite on – PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 – for $14.99. Those that purchased the game’s $19.99 Season Pass get both episodes of Burial at Sea as part of the package, along with the previously released Clash in the Clouds DLC and an assortment of in-game extras.
Burial at Sea heads back to Rapture, the undersea utopia built by Andrew Ryan that served as the setting of the series’ first two games. Familiar characters pop up here and there, but this story focuses on Infinite‘s two stars, Booker and Elizabeth, as they seek out a missing child in what’s been established as a film noir-inspired adventure. The first DLC episode also features a return to the slightly more strategic approach to combat seen in BioShock/BioShock 2, as we learned in a recent playthrough of the nearly finished content.
While series creator Ken Levine has been very up front about the film noir inspirations for Burial at Sea‘s first episode, its follow-up will likely go in another direction. Next month’s release puts players in control of Booker once more, with Elizabeth accompanying him as she did in Infinite. The relationship between the two characters is shifted, but with no impact on how you play. The follow-up episode turns Elizabeth into a playable character for the first time. As Levine told us in a chat connected with the Burial at Sea preview, the goal is to deliver an “Elizabeth simulator” that allows players to get a sense of what it’s like to be someone who possesses her reality-altering abilities.
