Dell Launches New Printers, Workstations

Direct marketer Dell took the wraps off a new line of laser printers aimed squarely at rival Hewlett-Packard‘s workgroup and business printing market, introducing five new monochrome and color laser printers with high page counts and competitive prices. Dell also rolled out two new Precision workstations which may not have a lot of visual flair, but boast significantly improved zip-to-dollar ratios.

Dell’s new printer offerings include:

The Laser Printer 5310n is priced at $999 and is intended for large groups with big black-and-white printing needs, offering speeds up to 50 ppm at letter sizes, numerous expansion options, and low operational costs.
The Laser Printer 5210n is a slightly slimmed-down version of the 531n, priced at $899 and offering wireless connectivity.
The Laser Printer 5110cn is just under $1,000 and offers ColorTrack 2, built-in duplex capability, and black print speeds of 40 ppm and color speeds up to 35 ppm.
The Laser Printer 3010cn is a networked color laser with ColorTrack, and black-and-white print speeds of up to 25 ppm. The best part may be the prices, starting at $379.
Multifunction Laser Printer 1815dn is aimed at small and medium-sized businesses and workgroups: it offers duplex support as well as scanning, copying, and fax capability starting at $429.

Dell’s new Precision 690 and Precision 490 workstations sport Dual-Core Xeon processors, support for up to 16 DIMMs in a unique scalable design, and improved graphics capability: according to Dell, the new models faeture performance gains of up to 45 percent on single-threaded applications and up to 155 percent on multi-threaded processes.

The Precision 690 starts at $1,799 and sports Intel Dual-Core Xeon processors at speeds of 3.0 to 3.73 GHz, support for up to 64 GB of RAM with a new fully-buffered ECC IMMs, dual-graphics capability supporting up to four monitors or Nvidia LI technology, high-performance serial-attached SCSI (SAS) disk storage, and five internal drive bays.
The Precision 490 starts at $1,529 and offers the same Dual-Core Xeons as the 690, support for up to 32 GB of RAM, SAS hard disk storage, six expansion slots, and a case which can be configured for either desktop or minitower use.

Both new Precision workstations are available today.
