Ghostlight Announces World War I FPS

If the slew of World War II video games being pumped out over the last few years have finally drained the era of its nostalgic appeal, you might try taking another step back in time – to World War I. That’s what the UK publisher Ghostlight is doing with its latest title, To End All Wars, a WWI-era first-person-shooter, which was officially announced on Thursday.

The game will attempt to recreate the trench-warfare of WWI using Epic’s Unreal Engine 3. Developer Kuju has assigned production of the game to its Chemistry studio (formerly Kuju Sheffield) which specializes in developing games for the Unreal engine.

“By producing a title set in World War I, we are taking gaming into a new period of wartime history,” Ghostlight’s head of development, Stephen Morgan, in a statement. “Our research revealed huge global changes in both real-world technology and tactical deployment of battle units during the intense four year conflict. This has given us scope to present gamers with a multitude of evolving challenges within an ever changing environment.”

To End All Wars will be released for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 sometime in the summer of 2008.

It set premieres across all its international YouTube channels for this trailer, and while the description for most of them had a message along the lines of "Stay tuned for the World Premiere of the Star Wars Outlaws Story Trailer," Ubisoft Japan slipped up. As spotted by Gematsu, the description of a since-delisted premiere for the trailer on Ubisoft Japan's channel revealed an August 30 release date.
