In today’s ubiquitous Bluetooth speaker market, if you want to make a mark, you’ve got to be bold. Along those lines, Lepow industries today unveiled the Mod, a uniquely styled Bluetooth speaker that pairs sumptuous chrome curves with state-of-the-art technology, resulting in a retro-modern device that’s sure to get some attention, even in the wonder-filled halls at CES 2014.
Something like a cross between a futuristic Pfister faucet and the flight controls from the spaceship in Flight of the Navigator, the Mod was inspired by the record players prominent in the 60’s British subculture movement of the same name.
The speaker’s upward-facing drivers are intended to create a 360 sound stage for an immersive audio experience from anywhere in the room. The speaker also incorporates DSP for four EQ presets. The Mod’s other modern touches include Bluetooth 4.0, on-board touch controls for volume and play, a speakerphone, a USB charger for mobile devices, and a lithium-ion battery for up to 8 hours of play.
While Lepow is a relative newcomer to the audio scene, the mobile accessories company has picked up a coveted Red Dot Design award for its past efforts. We’re looking forward to checking out this metallic mix of tech and nostalgia to see if the sound can keep up with the looks, so stay tuned to hear the verdict as we track it down at CES next week.
The Mod will be available sometime in the first quarter of the year at an undisclosed price.
