Speed Racer Game in the Works

Fans of the 1960s cult classic Speed Racer series are in for a major revival of the show. Not only is a Speed Racer movie in the works for 2008, a speed racer videogame is officially on the way as well. The game had been rumored since late July, but Warner Brothers Interactive sealed the deal with an official announcement on Wednesday.

Naturally, the game’s release will coincide with its theatric cousin (produced by Warner Bros. Pictures), and the game will be based on the movie. Only Nintendo Wii and DS versions will initially be available – a PlayStation 2 release is planned, but will be stalled to hit shelves with the DVD launch of Speed Racer.

New-Zealand-based Sidhe Interactive will develop the title alongside their other upcoming release, Jackass: the Game. They will collaborate heavily with the movie’s producers to match the aesthetic feel in both mediums. John Gaeta, a visual-effects supervisor for the film, will work with both mediums to ensure a similar experience.

Embracer Group reportedly canceled a new Red Faction game

A new report reveals that Embracer Group-owned developer Fishlabs had been working on a new Red Faction game, although the project was canceled ahead of layoffs.

According to an exclusive report from Rock Paper Shotgun published Thursday, the German developer, which most recently developed and released Chorus in 2021, was working on a number of projects, one of which was a Red Factions prototype.

iPhones and iPads are about to get their first retro game streaming service

Playing retro games on iPhone and iPad is about to get even easier. As reported by Cult of Mac, Antstream Arcade, a subscription service that gives you access to over 1,300 licensed games, is making its way to iOS and iPadOS on June 27.

Antstream, which had already been available on Xbox and Windows, as well as via browser and Amazon, features licensed games from around 20 retro consoles like the Amiga, the Atari 2600, the PlayStation 1, and the SNES. So you can play games like Missile Command, Asteroids, Centipede, Day of the Tentacle, a few older Star Wars games, and many others. There are also challenges and tournaments that allow you to play games against other Antstream users.
