Microsoft Offers Racing Wheel Retrofit

First Microsoft has to set aside over a billion dollars to cover the cost of warranty repairs on its Xbox 360 game console. Now, the company if offering a free “precautionary and voluntary” retrofit for its Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel alternative game controller because, it seems, in a small number of cases the units have overheated and started emitting smoke.

The overheating seems to happen only when the systems are powered using the AC/DC power supply. Microsoft is urging customers to stop using the power supply and run the wheel off batteries until they’ve obtained a retrofit. Wireless Racing Wheel owners can register for the retrofit via Microsoft’s Xbox support site or by calling 800/469-9269. The company says it’s working with the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission other other agencies to coordinate the program.

Microsoft describes the number of Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheels that have gone up in smoke as “very small;” the company has not detailed the nature of its “retrofit” kit, saying only that any necessary instructions will be provided along with it. Industry speculation has Microsoft offering replacement power adapters.

The Finals made a big splash when it launched at The Game Awards 2023, and it has maintained a healthy player base in the months since. Tomorrow, The Finals Season 2 begins and it brings new weapons and gadgets, another battle pass, a new map, and the Power Shift mode with it. Although I dropped from off playing The Finals a few weeks after its release, my early taste of Season 2’s new content was more than enticing enough to draw me back in.
New season, new content
As expected, The Finals Season 2 offers up another 96-level battle pass for players to make their way through. This season is themed around a hacker group called CNS and all things digital, so many of the cosmetics are inspired by that faction and video games like Street Fighter and Minecraft. During a presentation prior to Digital Trends’ Season 2 playtest, Embark Studios confirmed it does not plan to change the battle pass’ pricing, nor put any new gameplay-related content behind a paywall.

Ranking systems are common in most competitive games, but they all work a little differently, even if they use the same basic terminology and structure. Fortnite's Rocket Racing will have you rising up various ranks as you complete more races and quests, but this has a greater impact on your game than simply what little icon is next to your name. The basics of how the Fortnite Rocket Racing ranking system works is that each season will rank you based on how well you do in races and how many points you earn during those races. You will start each season at Bronze I, but can slowly progress up to the highest rank of Unreal. Here's a full list of all the ranks.

As touched on, ranking into new tiers gives you more than just a new little icon. Each tier you reach unlocks more maps you can race on up until Diamond. You will also be facing more skilled players since ranks double as a matchmaking system that pairs you with people around your ranking. If you hit the Unreal rank, your name will then show up on the Global Leaderboards.
