Accessory and peripheral maker iLuv has garnered some attention for its audio and video accessories, many of which are designed to complement Apple’s ever-ubiquitous iPod music players. Now, the company seems to have entered into an exclusive partnership with upscale retailer Neiman Marcus, which is offering an iLuv Portable Video MP3 & DVD Player featuring an 8.4-inch widescreen display, DVD playback capability, and compatibility with all but the latest video-capable iPods.
The Portable Video MP3 & DVD Player touts a black finish and a flip-open design which accommodates a DVD disc and a video-capable iPod. When closed, the device offers touch-sensitive key controls for managing either the iPod or the integrated DVD player, with an onscreen display so users can keep track of functions. The player can display video stored on an iPod, connect to a television display using either S-video or AV output, and offers slow and fast motion playback and zoom features. The unit comes with a remote control, runs on a rechargeable lithium ion battery, and can charge the iPod while docked.
Here’s the bad news: while the Portable Video MP3 & DVD Player is compatible with Apple’s previous 30, 60, and 80 GB iPod models, it is not compatible with the current 80 and 160 GB iPod classics, nor the new iPod nano or iPod touch. Still, if you have a slightly older video-capable iPod and want a larger but-still-portable display option, the Portable Video MP3 & DVD Player might be worth a look. The unit is set to go on sale October 19 for $275.
