A new survey (PDF) of 1,200 U.S consumers conducted by Solutions Research Group during September 2007 finds that high-definition television sets and Windows-based notebook computers top consumers’ wish lists for the upcoming end-of-year holiday season. Fully 35 percent of respondents indicated they wanted a flat-screen high-definition television set, while 20 percent indicated wishes for a Windows-based notebook computer was fueling their sugar plum-fueled desires. The top-ranked branded electronic device on the list was the Nintendo Wii (coming in at #8 with a 9 percent score), followed by the Sony PlayStation 3 (#9 at six percent). High-definition disc players—either Blu-ray or HD DVD—came in number 10, with 6 percent of respondents saying the units were on their wish lists.

Solutions Research Group found no Apple products cracked the top ten of consumer’s holiday wish lists, but, when combined together, one in six consumers were found to be considering some sort of Apple product. Desire for an Apple notebook ranked #11 overall (#9 among women), while the iPhone ranked #15 overall.
Men and women shared six out of ten items in the top ten list, but differed on four: men leaned toward video game systems, while women leaned towards TiVo digital video recorders and Apple notebooks.
Microsoft’s Xbox 360 gaming console was ranked #12 overall.
