Microsoft Launches Xbox 360 Arcade

Having already captured the hearts, minds, and money of young adults everywhere with the Halo franchise, Microsoft is looking for new pockets of cash by peddling its console to different audiences. On Monday, it launched a new version of the Xbox 360 targeted especially at families.

The Xbox 360 Arcade comes bundled with five family-friendly games: PAC-MAN Championship Edition, Uno, Luxor 2, Boom Boom Rocket and Feeding Frenzy. It also gets an HDMI interface, wireless controller, and 256MB memory card. In case some more violent games happen to migrate into the household, Microsoft has also included a Family Settings feature that allows parents to control what their kids watch and play.

Continuing with its family bent, Microsoft is also bringing a number of new family content to Xbox Live, including Looney TunesBlue’s Clues, The Backyardigans and iCarly. Two new games, SpongeBob SquarePants Underpants Slam and Shrek-n-Roll will also be available. cartoons,

The new Xbox 360 Arcade will be on shelves at retailers immediately for $279.99, the same price as the standard Xbox 360 Core edition.

Xbox is going all in on strategy games. On Wednesday, it announced that Ara: History Untold is coming to PC on September 24 and will be available on day one with PC Game Pass.

Weirdly enough, though, the news coverage has been slim, despite Xbox releasing a whole podcast about it and the soon-to-release Age of Mythology: Retold from the Age of Empires team. It's also strange that the news didn't pop up in this summer's Xbox Game Showcase, which took place days ago. The podcast and blog is all there is to show how Xbox is committed to real-time strategy.

Xbox has officially announced all-digital versions of the Xbox Series X and S consoles, as well as a brand new version of the Xbox Series X console that has 2TBs of harddrive space.

Last year, rumors swirled after "Project Brooklin" was leaked during the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) trial. This project talked about an all-new digital console with faster Wi-Fi, a redesign, and more. However, this announcement seems to be more in line with the traditional console cycle of releasing digital versions halfway through the lifespan rather than an entirely new project. It looks like these digital consoles are a pared-down version of the leaked project.
