Picture this:
In a move to indulge your inner redneck, you decide to visit the local drag strip for a night filled with smoking tires and roaring fans. The first car that arrives in the lane is the 2014 Corvette Stingray Z51. It’s America’s sweetheart sports car, a traditional racing machine with big displacement, wide tires, and a rigid suspension. With its 460 horsepower and 465-lb-ft of torque, it’s the obvious crowd-pleaser, and it can race from 0 to 60 in a very quick 3.8 seconds.
Short of the supercar caste, there are few cars on the road today that produce the same level of performance as a ‘Vette. Enter the challenger and underdog, the Tesla Model S P85.
This is an all-electric luxury sedan with seating for the whole family (no really, there are optional rear-facing jump seats in back), with a single gear and an incredibly heavy 85 kWh battery pack. However, the P85 is the performance-0riented version of the Model S, with 416 horsepower, and all of its 443-lb-ft of torque available from a standstill.
Tesla claims that the Model S can sprint to 60 in 4.2 seconds, so the results should be pretty easy to predict. With that said, what happens may surprise you. Take a look in the video below, with props to DragTimes for posting it.
