Sony Unveils Extended-Life PSP Batteries

Sony Unveils Extended-Life PSP Batteries

Sony PSP owners craving extended gaming sessions now have a way to get their fix: a new extended-life battery pack from Sony. Officially announced on the PlayStation blog on Tuesday, the new battery pack will supposedly double the battery life of the new model PSP.

While Sony’s standard battery back is rated for 1800 milliamp-hours (mAh, a unit used to show battery capacity, not power), the new pack is rated for 2200 mAh. As a result, the new batteries are thicker than the originals, and Sony will also include two new plastic battery covers to accommodate for them, in both black and white.

Sony’s blog announcement claimed the battery kit would hit retailers in mid-December, at a price of $44.99. It will be compatible with both the older PSP 1000 and the new PSP 2000.

Typically, the DualShock 4 lasts for four to eight hours of play per charge (typically on the lower end of that range), far less than the Xbox One controller or the Nintendo Switch Pro controller.

Why does the DualShock 4 battery die so quickly? Simple -- it’s equipped with a 1000mAh battery, which is substantially smaller than standard AA batteries used in the Xbox One gamepad. Unless you want to commit to a wired connection, you’re going to want to take some steps to squeeze extra life out of your PlayStation 4 controller. Luckily, we have some tricks to help you ensure that you’ll never have to wait to play again.

It's understandable though, as the DualSense has some tremendous tech behind it. Its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers feel next-gen, but at the expense of draining its battery life. And when coupled with the controller's fancy lights, you get a gamepad that has all the bells and whistles you could hope for -- while lasting around 10-12 hours or so.

Luckily, there are multiple settings you can alter to ensure the DualSense lasts as long as possible. In this guide, we'll show you which settings to change, along with tips and tricks to get the most out of your new controller. That way, you'll spend more time gaming and less time waiting!
