BenQ has announced its new DCS X800 point-and-shoot digital camera, which the company is claiming is the slimmest 8 megapixel shooter on the market, with a thickness of 14 mm, but it pulls in its gut to measure just 9.8 mm at its thinnest. The X800 also sports a 3-inch LCD display, face detection technology, and BenQ’s “Super Shake Free” image stabilization to ensure clear pictures.
The camera sports USB 2.0 connectivity, stores, images to microSD cards or 12 MB of buit-in memory, and sports a 3× optical zoom. BenQ claims the camera can shoot all the way down to ISO 2000 in Super Shake Free mode—ISO 4000 in Movie mode—and can also be used to shoot VGA-resolution MPEG4 video at 30 frames per second. The camera also includes an integrated movie and music player, so users can take their MPEG4 videos and tunes, although the company hasn’t said what audio formats are supported. (We’re thinking MP3 for sure.) The camera also offers NTSC/PAL output for displaying images on a TV, and supports PictBridge printing.
BenQ says the X800 will be available worldwide this quarter, but hasn’t yet disclosed pricing information. The cameras will be available in red and black casings.
