LG partnering with Google for Nexus 6, Nexus smartwatch launches

Last time we learned about the Nexus 6, it was Google’s Sundar Pichai confirming that we won’t see the device before June. That gave us a release window, but we still didn’t know who would partner with Google to produce the successor to the Nexus 5. If a report out of Gizmodo Germany is to be believed though, it looks like we have an answer.

According to the report, Google will tap LG once more to produce the Nexus 6. Seeing as LG made the Nexus 4 in 2012 and the Nexus 5 in 2013, as well as having its G Pad 8.3 slapped with the Google Play Edition label, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Google picked LG to be its partner once again.

Also not surprising is what the Nexus 6 will be like. If the report is to be believed, the Nexus 6 will be a “lightweight” version of the LG G3, which has yet to be officially announced. We assume the publication means that the Nexus 6 will be an understated version of the rumored G3, a feeling that would match the overall toned-down feel of the Nexus line.

More interestingly, though, is what the report says about Google’s rumored smartwatch. According to Gizmodo Germany, LG is also involved in the production of the so-called Nexus smartwatch. This adds credence to information from famed product leaker @evleaks, who said that Google’s smartwatch would be shown off during the company’s I/O developer conference.

All we need now is information on the rumored Nexus 8 and the next version of Android and we’ll be very happy campers!
