It took Jawbone a while to release an Android app for its original UP fitness tracking band, and sure enough, when the UP24 band was announced at the end of last year, its accompanying app was another iOS-only piece of software. However, as of today, a brand-new Android app has been released with support for the UP24.

The new UP24 wristband differs from the first UP by connecting wirelessly using Bluetooth, instead of physically using a 3.5mm headphone jack. Open the app, and the band will sync almost immediately, providing the ability to track your weight, create food libraries, plus store all your most recent activities. It’s also possible to link the UP24 with third-party apps, including RunKeeper, MyFitnessPal, and the handy customization system IFTTT. As the UP24 is designed to be worn all the time, it can track your sleep, which is also logged inside the app.

Other features include smart sleep alarms to help you wake up at the optimal time, alerts to remind you to get up out of your chair, and the option to compete with fellow Jawbone UP-owning friends.

Jawbone states the new Android app requires a smartphone running Android 4.3 or later, and uses Bluetooth 4.0 for continuous syncing. While its release may have taken a little longer than some would like, at least the Android app is now available. As proven by Pebble recently, getting a stable version of a wirelessly syncing app up and running on Android, isn’t always the quickest process. Additionally, Jawbone has actually released an Android app, unlike Nike and its still iOS-bound FuelBand.

The Jawbone UP24 is available to buy online or in stores now, where it costs $150, and comes in either orange or black. The app can be downloaded for free here.
