EA Provides Details, Trailer for Sims 3

If EA’s placeholder site weren’t a big enough clue for Sims fans what was around the corner, the publisher made it perfectly clear at its E3 press conference this year: The Sims 3 is coming.

Rod Humble, head of EA’s Sims division, took the stage Monday night to explain more about the hotly anticipated update to the franchise. The biggest change will be the scale of the world a Sim is able to interact in. While previous games featured Sims simply going about their own household activities, The Sims 3 will allow players to go out into the town, opening up a new realm of possibilities.

A new trailer posted on the game’s sparse official page depicts, in black and white, the boring “home” activities Sims were formerly confined to, then bursts into color as characters enter the great outdoors to run, play, picnic, fish, and do other activities. The page has also been updated with a number of screenshots.

While EA still hasn’t stamped a firm release date on the title, Humble said on stage that it was slated for release next year.

Electronic Arts owns the rights to a rich back catalog of PC games from series like Populous, Command & Conquer, and Dungeon Keeper, but many of them weren't readily available on Steam. That changed today as EA brought many of its classic PC games and expansions to Valve's PC gaming platform today.

Some of the most notable additions come from the long-ago shut down Bullfrog Productions' lineup of games, like Dungeon Keeper Gold and Populous. Personally, I'm looking forward to jumping into The Saboteur, an underrated game from Pandemic Studios' where players fight to sabotage the Nazi takeover of Paris in the 1940s. Rockstar finally dropped the first trailer for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 on Monday night after it leaked early. In less than 24 hours, it has already amassed over 77 million views. Outside of what's featured in the trailer, Rockstar isn't revealing much more about GTA 6. Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser simply stated in a press release that Rockstar wants to "push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences."

The Sims 4: For Rent expansion pack pits landlords against tenants

The Sims 4: City Living, one of the game's many expansion packs, first introduced livable apartments in 2016. For longtime Sims players, this was a welcome addition to the most recent iteration of the long-running series. But since then, players have asked for far more freedom in both apartment gameplay (i.e., playing a Sims family that lives in an apartment) and building.

The Sims 4: For Rent expansion looks to step up and provide players with some long-requested features that haven’t been available before. In a preview event, lead producer Rebecca Doyle and lead designer Jessica Croft took press members through the expansion pack’s features, and even provided the opportunity to play as a property owner.
