Game Party 2 for Wii Intros Five New Games

Game Party 2 for Wii Intros Five New Games

Sticking to the tried-and-true formula of casual mini-games for the Nintendo Wii, Midway Games announced Game Party 2 on Monday, a sequel to its last collection of Wii games. The game revisits the original title with some overlapping diversions along with five all-new minigames.

“The success of the original Game Party was a result of consumers looking for fun, family-oriented party games for the Wii,” Midway’s senior VP of publishing, Miguel Iribarren. “Game Party 2 expands and enhances the original, leveraging Midway’s rich arcade heritage, and delivering more games that are a ton of fun and easy to pick-up and play with friends.”

Rehashed titles will include Bean Bags and Puck Bowling, while it will also introduce Quarterback Challenge, Horseshoes and Lawn Darts. All told, the release includes 11 different activities, many of which offer four-player mode, customizable characters, and even tournament play.

Midway offered no solid release date for the title, but promised a $30 MSRP when it arrives in the United States.

New mainline Shovel Knight game will bring a ‘new dimension’ to the series
Shovel Knight with his weapon standing in front of a night sky with a full moon.

Now enterting its second decade of existence, the Shovel Knight series is getting some major updates, including a whole new mainline game that was announced Friday.

Yacht Club Games founder Sean Velasco didn't reveal much during the studio's 10th anniversary showcase, but said the game, which has been in the works for around four years, "honors the shovel knight legacy" while integrating "innovative gameplay mechanics." This is purposefully vague, but his statement that it'll be a "bold new adventure that'll launch Shovel Knight into an entirely new dimension of gaming" makes us think that 3D might be on the horizon.

Helldivers 2 just got some long-requested changes in its new patch
Four soldiers walk in front of a blue Super Earth flag in the Helldivers 2 trailer.

Players have been eagerly waiting for another Helldivers 2 update, and now it's here, bringing with it massive updates to Stratagems, the galactic map, lobbies, and more.

Patch 01.000.400 released on Thursday, and the patch notes are quite extensive. What most players will notice though are the balance changes to certain weaker Stratagems. For example, the Orbital Gatling Barrage got an increased fire rate, more rounds, increased armor penetration, and a decreased cooldown time. The MG-206 Heavy Machine Gun can now deal more projectile damage -- increased from 100 to 150 -- and decreased reload time, although it also got a slightly decreased fire rate.

Move over Helldivers 2. A Starship Troopers game is coming to consoles
Key art for Starship Troopers: Extermination.

Helldivers 2 is one of 2024's breakout gaming hits, but it's finally getting some competition from the franchise it is heavily inspired by. Offworld's Starship Troopers: Extermination, a co-op shooter based on the satirical sci-fi franchise, will exit early access on PC and launch for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S this October.

Starship Troopers: Extermination originally entered early access on Steam in May 2023 and is a co-op first-person shooter that supports up to 16 players. Helldivers 2 definitely stole a bit of its thunder, but this officially licensed Starship Troopers game does stand out because of its first-person gameplay perspective, character classes, and light base-building elements. While hardcore Helldivers 2 fans on PS5 and PC might not want to switch games, this finally gives Xbox players a game that's somewhat similar to Sony's multiplayer hit to check out.
