Asus Plans Touch-Screen, Dual-Core Eee PCs

Asus’ successful Eee PC will continue to snowball features through next year, but a version near $300 is also on the way, according to Taiwanese news outlet DigiTimes. Samson Hu, Asus’ general manager of the Eee PC, revealed details of the line’s future in an article published Thursday.

Among the biggest updates will be a touch-screen version of the Eee that’s been talked about since January, as well as a faster dual-core version. News of the dual-core version, which will be based on an upcoming release of Intel’s efficient Atom processor, essentially blows the lid on the processor, which hasn’t yet been formally announced by Intel. Although the company hasn’t yet decided which Eee notebooks will get the update, prototypes are expected to debut at CES 2009.

For those who want to see a return to the Eee’s original selling point – rock bottom price – those days may not be far away, either. According to DigiTimes, Asus president Jerry Shen also announced that an upcoming Eee release should retail for less than NT$10,000, which translates to $307 USD.

Asus has been releasing a slew of devices with OLED screens recently, such as the excellent Vivobook Pro 16X. The Asus Vivobook 13 Slate OLED continues that trend and focuses on entertainment and productivity. In fact, Asus says there's no need to carry multiple devices.

The Vivobook 13 Slate OLED is a 2-in-1 Windows tablet in the same vein as Microsoft's Surface line. It features a full-sized detachable keyboard and stylus support. Although, unlike the Surface, the computer comes with a keyboard instead of being sold separately. It even sports an adjustable cover stand with a 170-degree hinge.

An interesting image was leaked on Twitter on Sunday, suggesting that Lenovo might be working on a brand-new laptop. The image shows a 17-inch Lenovo ThinkBook Plus with a smaller, secondary screen located on the right side of the keyboard. If the rumor is proven true, the laptop would certainly mark an innovative release for Lenovo.

The image was posted by @evleaks on Twitter alongside other gadget-related leaks. The poster is a reliable source with a proven track record, but it's important to take this report with skepticism until Lenovo makes an announcement about the release of this laptop.

The secondary 4K screen on the new Asus ZenBook Pro Duo can now tilt

Asus announced the launch of the new ZenBook Pro Duo 15 OLED, a successor to the previous ZenBook. ZenBook Pro Duo comes with a set of high-end specs and a secondary tilting 14-inch touchscreen that can be used alongside the main 15.6-inch 4K OLED touch display. The laptop is already available from various retailers and can be configured with different components before purchase.

The new notebook is decked out with the latest hardware, but the most eye-catching feature is, of course, the dual touchscreen. Very similar in design to the previous ZenBook, this one picks up where the previous one left off. The main screen is surrounded by thin, unobtrusive bezels and has a 93% screen-to-body ratio. The secondary display lies below it, right above the keyboard. While the laptop itself doesn't have a palm rest, Asus says that a bundled one comes with the notebook.
