Because They’re Worth It, L’Oreal Takes eBay To Court For Selling Counterfeits

In a move to protect its brand and clamp down on fakes, cosmetics company L’Oreal is taking eBay to court in five European countries to try and prevent the auction site from selling counterfeits. The company contends that eBay could do more to stop the fakes being sold, the BBC reports.

It tried the same tactic in Belgium last year and lost, but since then luxury retailers LVMH have won a French court case against eBay. However, a US court ruled for eBay in a suit brought by Tiffany’s.

L’Oreal has filed its suit in France, Belgium, Germany, Spain and the UK.
