Acer Makes Moves on the Business PC Market

Business desktop computers aren’t the sort of sexy boxes high-end gamers crave, but they—and their bulk purchase—form a major portion of most computer manufacturer’s revenue stream. To that end, Acer (currently the world’s third largest PC maker) is looking to assert itself amongst North American business customers with three new Veriton desktop PCs, each of which are designed to be easy to use, easy to maintain and service…and easy on the accounts payable department.

“The new Acer Veriton desktop PCs were designed from the ground up to provide business customers with compelling features that make a big difference in value and productivity in the real world,” said Acer’s desktop business manager Leila Axelle Robert, in a statement.

The new Veriton design includes open air vents on the front of the units, a cable- and hinge-free front panel, a new modular internal layout to simplify accessing drives and components, and a sipler cable management system. The units also sport commonly-used ports on the top and fronts, and can be oriented either vertically or horizontally to save space. And, while all the systems ship with Windows Vista Business, the XP downgrade is installed as a dual load. All the Veriton PCs also sport a PCI Express 2.0 ×1 slot, a PCI Express 2.0 ×16 slot, and two PCI 2.3 slots.

The Veriton M265-ED2220C and M265-BE1400C hold down the low end: the ED220C sports a 2.4 GHz Intel Pentium Dual-Core processor while the BE1400C sports a 2GHz Celeron Dual Core CPU. Both feature 2 GB of RAM, 160 GB of hard drive storage, SuperMulti DVD burners with Labelflash technology, and Intel integrated graphics. The ED220C comes in at $419, while the BE1400C starts at $449…but that includes a 19-inch flatscreen display.

Next up, the Veriton M421G-ED5000C sports a 2.6 GHz AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core CPU, ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics, 2 GB of RAM, a 160 GB hard drive, and a Supermulti DVD burner with LabelFlash technology, while the Veriton M670G-UQ9400C sports a 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad processor, 3 GB of RAM, 320 GB of hard drive storage, and ATI Radeon HD 4350 Pro graphics with 512 MB of video RAM. The M412G starts at $439, while the M670G has prices starting at $899.

The new Veriton desktop PCs should be available now in North America from authorized Acer dealers.
