The status of another Ghostbusters sequel may be in limbo, but that doesn’t appear to be hindering celebration of the paranormal comedy classic’s 30th anniversary this year. Not only will the film (and its 1989 sequel) get a brand new Blu-ray set with an impressive array of new material, but Sony Pictures announced this week that Ghostbusters will return to theaters August 29 for special anniversary screening of the original film in restored, remastered 4K format around the U.S. and Canada.
The announcement was accompanied by the launch of Ghostbusters.com, a new website that will provide updates on everything related to the franchise, as well as (of course) lots of Ghostbusters-themed merchandise. The studio directed fans to the site for more information on the screenings, which will take place at more than 700 theaters.
As for that 30th anniversary Blu-ray set, there’s actually quite a bit of interesting content in the two-film package, which features restored versions of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II remastered in 4K.
