There’s a new small-footprint PC from Gateway. With the latest Intel CPU, it’s clearly looking to take down the iMac empire. Does the Gateway Profile 4XL really do flips over the iMac?
The Gateway Profile 4XL comes with a 17in LCD monitor, just like the new iMac. But their similarities are few. The 2.66GHz Pentium 4 CPU is miles ahead of the iMac’s 800MHz CPU. To keep that cpu cool, Gateway uses an innovative heatpipe design.
To keep costs down, Gateway uses DDR SDRAM, but plenty of it, at 512MB. You’ll find no shortage of ports, either. It comes with Six USB 2.0 ports, as well as 2 firewire ports. The integrated ethernet and modem should be helpful.
Since it weighs a little more than 20 pounds, this could very well be a perfect lan party pc. The only thing to worry about would be the nVidia GeForce2 MX 400 32MB video. Better than many integrated video solutions, but mostly unable to play some of today’s graphics intensive games.
The Gateway Profile 4XL is availible now from Gateway, for $2000.
