Proclaim Audio Works DMT-100

If you’re tired of the same old speaker design cluttering homes across America and long for something more unique looking, you’ll want to take note of the DMT-100, a new sphere-shaped system from Proclaim Audio Works. While it’s not exactly affordable, you’ll be getting a speaker which has had a lot of thought put into it.

The Proclaim Audio Works DMT-100 consists of three spherical speakers which are mounted on arms and attached to a stand made out of fully-machined, high grade aluminum and stainless steel. The spheres are designed as such that, according to Proclaim Audio, they eliminate cabinet resonance and also allow for the correct alignment and positioning of the three drivers.

The company’s “Driver Manipulation Technology” allow you to change the system’s acoustic characteristics by orienting all six transducers. This is joined by a hand-crafted external crossover which helps to better balance stereo output. All-in-all the three drivers can be adjusted up to 45-degrees off axis, while the tweeter and mid-range speakers get up to 12-inches of vertical or horizontal flexibility for positioning.

The spherical design of the speakers is what Proclaim says is the best shape for audio reproduction because of “its characteristically smooth frequency response.” The speakers are built with two layers of fiberglass filled with a sand mixture for a denser consistency. This results in what is seen as a non-resonating enclosure that doesn’t distort the housed driver.

The Proclaim Audio Works DMT 100 speakers, which can be custom painted in a variety of color schemes, have a price of around $26,000. More details on this system can be found at the manufacturer’s Web site.

Cambridge Audio adds a retro-cool VU meter to its CXN100 streamer
The Cambridge Audio CXN100 with the VU meter update.

Digital and analog worlds continue to collide as Cambridge Audio announced that it has extended the retro-cool digital VU meter update that its Evo streaming amplifiers are getting today to its acclaimed CXN100 network music streamer as well.

In March, the renowned British audio gear maker fully embraced the iconic 1980s design of the DeLorean automobile with the launch of an Evo 150 Limited Edition integrated amplifier/network player. But as an added bonus, it also dropped the news that that amp, along with the Evo 75 and regular Evo 150 all-in-one players, would also receive a cool, analog-style digital VU meter and clock display feature that would be added as an over-the-air (OTA) update in May.

Get these Sony wireless headphones for $100 for Memorial Day
The Sony WHCH720N noise-canceling headphones on a desk.

While most people are likely familiar with Sony due to the PlayStation 5, a lot of folks may not know that it's a company that makes some of the best headphones on the market, such as the excellent Sony WH-1000XM5. Of course, that one does come at a pretty high price of several hundred dollars, although you don't need to spend that much money to get a reasonably solid set of headphones from Sony. One example is the Sony WHCH720N, which is going for just $100 at Best Buy rather than the usual $150. That's a really solid early Memorial Day deal that will save you $50 on an excellent pair of headphones.

Why you should buy the Sony WHCH720N Noise Canceling Headphones
While you won't get the same world-class active noise cancellation (ANC) as you would with the XM5s, the Sony WHCH720N does come with a solid form of ANC, which is excellent for the price tag. Not only that, but the ambient sound mode has 20 different settings for you to pick from so that you can always hear as much as you need to when you're out and about. There's even a smart adaptive sound technology that automatically adjusts the ambient mode or switches it off, depending on what you're doing, and it's a similar tech as you would find on the high-end XM5.
