One of the worst things about smartphones is how quickly their batteries die. An entire industry has popped up to solve the problem and it seems that there’s a new external battery pack and charging phone case released every day. Now, OtterBox is joining other case makers with its streamlined Resurgence Power Case for the iPhone 5 and 5S.

The Power Case comes with a 2,000mAh battery built into the back, which provides 2x battery power and one extra charge for your iPhone. The case also features a front-facing LED at the bottom right of the case to let you know how much your iPhone’s battery has charged. The indicator light is divided into four 25 percent increments, so you can see when your iPhone is 25, 50, 75, or 100 percent charged. As soon as your iPhone reaches full battery, the case turns off to preserve its own internal battery for the next time you need a charge.

In keeping with OtterBox’s reputation for making some of the most high-quality protective cases, the Resurgence Power Case is built to withstand a lot of drops and crashes. Even though the Power Case doesn’t look as impenetrable as the Defender case, OtterBox says the polycarbonate the case is military rated and survived rigorous testing. The case is designed to absorb energy and reduce the force of impact dramatically. Considering the fact that it has a large battery inside, the Power Case is relatively light at 3.05 oz and measures 5.65 x 2.55 x 0.69 inches.

The case is made up of two parts: the colorful back where the battery is located and a front part that snaps on to keep the iPhone secure. The back of the case comes in black, glacier, teal shimmer, or satin rose. The front part is either black or white, depending on which back you choose. Teal shimmer and glacier come with the white front, while black and satin rose come with the black front. OtterBox’s new case is now available on the company’s website and at a few retail locations for $100.

Correction on 06-27-2014: This article initially stated that the Resurgence case offers 2 extra charges for your iPhone. It has been updated to reflect that the case holds just one extra charge, but offers 2x battery power to the iPhone 5S.

Nomad’s new iPhone case and Apple Watch band may be its coolest yet
Nomad Glow 2.0 Sport Case and Apple Watch Sport Band in daylight.

Though the world of Apple accessories is a dime a dozen, one of the better brands that you can buy is Nomad. Nomad has a variety of amazing leather Apple Watch bands and cases, as well as non-leather options, too. In August 2023, Nomad released a one-of-a-kind Glow in the Dark Apple Watch band that sold out in about 12 hours.

Since that Glow in the Dark band was a limited edition, no one was sure if Nomad was going to re-release it, and this explains the high resale prices you’ll find on eBay. But Nomad just released the Glow 2.0 Apple Watch Sport Band as well as a new Glow 2.0 Sport Case for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. And, yes, they're just as wonderful as before.

3 reasons why I’ll actually use Anker’s new iPhone power bank
A person holding the Anker MagGo Power Bank.

Power banks are a necessary evil, and even if you don’t consider yourself a “power user” who's likely to drain a phone’s battery in less than a day, there will be times when one comes in handy. And when I am forced to carry one, I want it to be as helpful and versatile as possible.

I’ve been trying Anker’s MagGo Power Bank 10K -- meaning it has a 10,000mAh cell inside it -- and there are three reasons why I'm OK with it taking up valuable space in my bag.
