Yesterday, leaked documents and assets pertaining to CD Projekt Red’s upcoming action role-playing game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, appeared on Reddit and other forums due to a developer’s Google Drive account being hacked. While you’re free to look at the files, the studio warns against doing so due to the files containing spoiler-heavy material.
“A portion of the files contains information about the story of the game so we strongly advise against accessing them, as this may heavily impact and spoil your future gaming experience,” said CD Projekt Red’s Michal Platkow-Gilewski when responding to an inquiry by Eurogamer. The good news for fans is the leak will not affect The Witcher 3‘s development cycle.
The files in question include details of the game’s ending, as well as a full bestiary of monsters, detailed descriptions of missions, production art, and lists of animations. In addition, there is an internal document that describes the opening sequence of The Witcher 3‘s E3 2014 demo.
“We start with a cutscene with the camera descending down on the Baron’s castle, showing off the lovely world surrounding it. The camera tracks in on the window of the cottage where we talk to Keira Metz. Cue dialogue.”
Unfortunately, it’s the next bit that may cause some strife. “We talk to Keira Metz and she gives us a task: remove the curse from the tower in the swamps. (Boob physics eye candy, appropriately prepared dialogue).”
Another internal document suggests that The Witcher 3 was in a complete state as of February 2014, though it also add that the studio expects performance to be worse on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One than on PC. In addition, the document notes that both SmartGlass and Kinect, features associated with the Xbox One, aren’t supported yet, lending credence to the idea that the Xbox One version will have exclusive features.
The Witcher 3 is due out in February 2015 after having been delayed from its planned fall 2014 release window. The game will come in several different editions, both physical and digital.
