If we piqued your interest with our excited description of riding attack elephants in our E3 hands-on preview of Far Cry 4, you’ll be happy to learn that later today you can see it in action for yourself. Twitch livestreamers SuushiSam and EatMyDiction1 will be broadcasting their play this afternoon from 2-2:30pm PT and 4-4:30pm PT, respectively. That’s a whole hour of vicariously riding elephants and buzzing mountaintops in gyrocopters to help tide you over until the November 18 release.

We loved Far Cry 3 back in 2012, and the unexpected spin-off Blood Dragon showed that the developers have a fantastic sense of what makes these games fun, so we’re just as excited as you are to take in every emerging detail of the coming sequel.

Sure, there are other guerilla fighters on the island and even some awesome animal Amigos who can join you in your fight, but there's no substituting another real person by your side. Past Far Cry games have had various forms of multiplayer, including traditional PvP modes, isolated competitive co-op missions, and full-blown co-op play. This latest installment brings things back to basics with a simple, yet fully robust, co-op multiplayer function.

If you want to dive right into multiplayer co-op, there are a few hurdles you need to clear before you can team up with a friend or stranger for some destructive fun. Once you do get connected, though, the entire world will be open for your enjoyment. Anyone who has played Far Cry 6 and decided that they've had enough of Yara may find some condescending emails in their inbox straight from Ubisoft itself. The company is apparently sending out emails to anyone who has played the game (and subsequently made a Ubisoft account), taunting them into playing the game more.

Far Cry 6 Amigos companions guide: How to unlock, perks, abilities, and more

The more recent Far Cry titles have all straddled a line between mostly serious and dark main stories with wild and over-the-top gameplay. Far Cry 6 places you in the role of a freedom fighter trying to overthrow an oppressive government run by a corrupt dictator, but in between those main campaign missions are plenty of opportunities for off-the-wall antics and mayhem. It's thanks to that balance that the game doesn't become too self-serious and remains fun to play for the dozens of hours you can spend roaming the map completing optional objectives and searching out all the collectibles.

One of the wackiest new mechanics in Far Cry 6 is called Amigos. In past games, you could occasionally recruit other soldiers to fight with you, and in Primal even tame a wild animal to temporarily join you. Now there are uniquely named animal companions that you can unlock and take with you on your fight against the military powers of Yara. Each Amigo has its own advantages and abilities that you can level up to make them even more powerful. Plus, some are just downright adorable.
