Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella promises changes to company ‘culture’ in email

In an email to employees sent this morning, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella talked a lot about “reinventing productivity.” He also spent a lot of time speaking about how our world is one that is centered around mobile, and the cloud.

Computing is ubiquitous and experiences span devices and exhibit ambient intelligence,” Nadella said. “There will soon be more than 3 billion people with Internet-connected devices – from a farmer in a remote part of the world with a smartphone, to a professional power user with multiple devices powered by cloud service-based apps spanning work and life.

In Nadella’s letter, he continuously talked about how technologies like Skype translator could tear down language barriers, and services with “dual use” traits that will benefit people when it comes to both work and life.

For instance, Nadella cited examples with Cortana, Microsoft’s Siri-like voice assistant.

“In the future, it will be even more intelligent as a personal assistant who takes notes, books meetings and understands if my question about the weather is to determine my clothes for the day or is intended to start a complex task like booking a family vacation.”

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, Nadella said that changes are coming to the company.

“Culture change means we will do things differently,” Nadella said. “Often people think that means everyone other than them. In reality, it means all of us taking a new approach and working together to make Microsoft better.”

Nadella promises that he will reveal more about Microsoft’s approach going forward on July 22, the same day that the company will be announcing its latest earnings results.
