MSI just announced its next premium gaming notebook, dubbed the GT72 Dominator Pro. The first thing that stuck out to us about the GT72 is the extremely high amount of memory that it’s packed with. One model ships with 24GB, and the other unit comes with 32GB, both of which are outrageous numbers. That’s just way more RAM than you need, and unfortunately, shockingly high amounts of memory contribute to the GT72’s super high price tag.
RAM aside, the rest of the component roster makes a lot more sense. The GT72 Dominator Pro will include an Intel Core i7-4710HQ processor clocked at 2.5GHz, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 880M graphics card with 8GB of GDDR5 RAM, and a 17-inch 1080p display. In addition to two different levels of RAM, the two configs will also differ on storage as well. The GT72 Dominator Pro with 24GB of RAM will include a pair of 128GB SSDs configured in RAID 0, with a 1TB 7,200 RPM hard drive on top of that. The version with 32GB will double the amount of SSDs in RAID 0, and have the same mechanical hard drive. The GT72 Dominator Pro will also come with a Blu-ray player built in, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi is supported here as well. The 24GB model is called the GT72 Dominator Pro-010, with the 32GB is referred to as the GT72 Dominator Pro-007.
Port selection will consist of six USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI 1.4, two mini DisplayPort connections, and multiple audio ports. You’ll also get a memory card reader as well.
Wearing a familiar black shell that will likely consist mostly of plastic, the GT72 Dominator Pro’s SteelSeries keyboard will feature configurable LED back-lighting. If you plan to lug the GT72 Dominator Pro, we hope that you’re somewhat beefed up, or don’t mind carrying around a really heavy laptop. The GT72 Dominator Pro weighs in at 8.59 pounds, and we doubt that this number counts the power brick. Power will be provided to the GT72 Dominator Pro courtesy of a 9-cell battery.
The MSI GT72 Dominator Pro-010 costs $2,599.99, while the MSI GT72 Dominator Pro-007 runs you $2,999.99. This notebook is available right now, and you can learn more about it here.
