The three high-profile producers are attached to the project under the Warner Bros. banner, according to The Wrap, marking the first significant update to the project since it was announced years ago. Of the three producers, Goldsman is an Oscar-winner who earned an Academy Award for penning the screenplay for A Beautiful Mind, while Harold wrote and directed 2007’s Awake and served as executive producer on the recent Edge Of Tomorrow, and Tunnell was a producer for Awake. Goldsman also recently wrote, produced, and directed Winter’s Tale.
Designed by Tomohiro Nishikado, Space Invaders became a huge hit in the U.S. when it was licensed as an arcade game by Midway Games. The game put players in the role of a cannon operator who must shoot at rows and rows of aliens as they descend in a pattern that speeds up as the aliens get closer. The iconic game was one of the heralds of the arcade explosion in the U.S. that paved the way for the modern gaming industry.
The project doesn’t have a script or any indications of a proposed storyline at this point, but details will certainly emerge as development progresses.
