Many of the songs are from artists whose music is already available on the site, but a few new ones have been included, too. In its press release for the announcement, Amazon says tracks from artists like Miles Davis, Linkin Park, Shakira, Deadmau5, Ella Fitzgerald, Neil Young, DJ Snake & Lil Jon, Young the Giant, A$AP Rocky, Elvis, Oasis, Kacey Musgraves, Ray Charles, Panic! at the Disco, Wyclef Jean, and more are now available for subscribers.
New prime Playlists include “Upbeat Indie Vibes,” “Electronic Beats for Work,” “Rainy Day Jazz,” “Jack White and More,” “Bass Drops and Fist-Pumps,” and “Justin Timberlake’s Top Songs.”
Although many of these artists aren’t mainstream or cutting edge, they are certainly popular with music fans. Unfortunately, hit acts like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Kanye West aren’t included on the service because they are signed with Universal Music, which has yet to seal the deal with Amazon.
Even without Universal’s blessing, Prime Music has more than 1 million tracks so far. Of course, the company is most likely in talks with Universal to adds its most popular artists’ music to the mix. Little by little, Amazon will build up its Prime Music library in much the same way it’s built up Prime Instant Video and other services.
If you haven’t tried Prime Music out yet, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial on Amazon’s website.
