Gauntlet delayed until September 23

Warner Bros. and Arrowhead Game Studio’s reboot to the classic arcade dungeon crawler, Gauntlet, has been pushed back a few weeks to September 23. The game was originally set to come out earlier in the month, but has been delayed to give the studio more time to apply additional polish.

To keep your interest piqued, Arrowhead has released a new video (above) showcasing each of the game’s classes and modes, and runng through the lore. The heroes should be familiar to anyone who has played any of series’ iterations over the last few decades.

The barbarian is a heavy bruiser who brings whirling carnage. The valkyrie tanks with her shield and piercing spear. The elf rains down pain from a distance using arrows and bombs. Lastly, the wizard does typical wizard things like throwing fire and lightning around. The original Gauntlet, released in 1985, was a seminal work in bringing those core classes over from tabletop RPGs to become the backbone of nearly every fantasy video game since.

Fans will get an early look at the game at PAX Prime 2014 with a special tournament of Penny Arcade personalities and gaming/nerd celebrities such as MC Frontalot, Jessica Chobot, and Paul And Storm. The tournament will take place over four days at the Expo and streamed live over the official PAX Prime Twitch channel. Expo attendees and Twitch viewers can watch the tournaments on Friday, August 29 (6:30pm – 8:30pm PDT), Saturday, August 30 (3:00pm – 5:00pm PDT), Sunday, August 31 (6:30pm – 8:30pm PDT) and Monday, September 1 (11:30am – 1:30pm PDT).

Gauntlet will come out initially for Windows via Steam, with full support for SteamOS and Steam Machines in 2015.

While the majority of your success lies in which weapons and armor you carry when facing off against the Terminids and Automatons on various missions in Helldivers 2, you shouldn't overlook what your ship can do to support you. Besides just naming your destroyer, there's far more you can do to customize it with modules. Whereas weapons and Boosters will impact you and your squad on a more constant basis, ship modules come in clutch when you need to bring out the big guns, aka Stratagems. These power weapons are already enough to turn the tide of a tough fight, but when you add in the right ship modules, you'll be cooking bugs for breakfast.

Ship modules are purchased on your ship via the Ship Management Terminal. There are 18 in total, split between the Patriotic Administration Center, Orbital Cannon, Hangar Ship, Bridge Ship, and Engineer Bay categories. They are unlocked by spending samples you can collect during missions.
Donation Access License

Look, sometimes you can't argue with simplicity, and the Donation Access License is about as basic as they come. This mod gives any support weapons you call in more ammo by default, granting you more time blasting and less time waiting to call in your next one. It is a versatile mod as well since it can be applied to multiple Strategems. It applies to things like the Laser Cannon, Grenade Launcher, Railgun, Flamethrower, and more.

Armor sets in Helldivers 2 will affect more than just some stats and numbers behind the scenes. Just like your primary weapon, the type of armor you pick will dictate your playstyle and needs to be heavily considered before each mission. Each one comes with a different rating in three stats, plus there's a passive that makes it stand out, but all fall into either light, medium, or heavy roles. While the number of options isn't terribly overwhelming, comparing and contrasting all those stats and abilities on top of things like Boosters and Stratagems can become tedious. If you just want to get out there and blast some bugs, here are the best armor types to pick in Helldivers 2.

As of now, there are 19 different armor sets you can unlock with Medals and Super Credits, but more are likely to be added to the game in the future. When and if that occurs, we will update our rankings.
TR-9 Cavalier of Democracy

Especially when you're a fresh recruit in Helldivers 2, you can't go wrong with the Cavalier of Democracy if you happened to preorder the game. If not, it isn't a huge loss here since it is more of a great starter armor. It will give you very balanced stats for a medium build, with 100 Armor, 500 Speed, and 100 Stamina Regeneration. However, whether it's this one or any other you unlock early, make sure to get the Democracy Protects passive. This gives you a 50% chance to survive a lethal amount of damage and prevents bleeding damage from chest hemorrhages.

Bringing Helldivers 2 to Xbox eventually isn’t such a bad idea

It bugs Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer that Arrowhead Game Studios and Sony Interactive Entertainment's Helldivers 2 is not on Xbox. In a recent interview with Game File, Spencer stated that he's "not exactly sure who it helps in the industry by not being on Xbox," even though he understands that "there's a legacy in console gaming that we're going to benefit by shipping games and not putting them on other places."

That raises a good question: Should Helldivers 2 come to Xbox Series X/S? No plans for that are announced at this time. Although Spencer is likely saying Sony should do this because it would line up with Microsoft's current strategy, I don't think it would be such a bad idea once we're a ways out from this console exclusive's launch. At the very least, the wild success Helldivers 2 has seen on PC proves that PlayStation may benefit from eventually releasing more of its games on other platforms. The company already seems keenly aware of that, too.
