Though Nvidia launched the GeForce GTX 980 and 970 last week, Alienware has yet to update its desktop PC offerings to include either of these cards as configurable options.

Digital Trends contacted Alienware to find out why that’s the case. Alienware responded by informing us that “a configuration option” will be available sometime in the “near future.”

What’s unclear to us at this point is whether the GTX 980 and 970 will be available with Alienware’s Aurora and X51 desktops, along with the upcoming Area 51, once that update occurs. The new Area 51 should begin shipping sometime this fall. If we hear anything from Alienware that clarifies the situation further, we’ll be sure to update this piece accordingly.

To this point, multiple boutique PC makers, including Origin PC, Maingear, and Digital Storm, have added both the GTX 980 and GTX 970 to its respective PC configuration pages. Though Alienware is not quite there yet (for reasons unknown, so far), it’s only a matter of time before they follow suit.

Hopefully, that change happens sooner than later.

The Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 and GeForce GTX 970 launched on September 18. The GTX 980 carries an MSRP of $549. That’s roughly $150 – 250 less than what GTX 780 Ti cards typically cost. The GTX 980 replaced the 780 Ti and 780 once Nvidia released it. Alienware continues to offer the GTX 780 with its Aurora desktop.

Meanwhile, the GTX 970 costs $329, and replaces the GTX 770. Prior to the release of the GTX 980 and 970, the GTX 780 Ti, 780, and 770 were at the top of Nvidia’s single-GPU graphics card food chain.

AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT vs. Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070
An AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card placed in front of a black background.

AMD is refreshing its RX 6000 graphics cards, which launched a year and a half ago in November 2020. Between the RX 6650 XT and the RX 6950 XT, we have the new RX 6750 XT, the replacement for the RX 6700 XT that launched in March 2021. This upper mid range GPU is positioned against Nvidia's RTX 3070, so we threw both of them into the ring to see how they stack up.

The RX 6750 XT hasn't launched yet, so we are relying on AMD's benchmarks at the moment. Although AMD isn't lying, it definitely wants to show this GPU in a positive light against the best graphics cards.

Nvidia GeForce Now uses DLSS to hit 4K on Windows and Mac
GeForce Now runs on a MacBook Air.

As part of the weekly GFN Thursday, Nvidia announced that 4K streaming is coming to the GeForce Now apps on Windows and Mac, which is enabled by Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology. As of now, the increased resolution is only available for GeForce Now's RTX 3080 tier.

DLSS has been a staple of high-end PC gaming for the past couple of years, leveraging the dedicated Tensor cores inside RTX graphics cards to upscale games with AI. Although you can enable DLSS with games in GeForce Now, this is the first time Nvidia has explicitly confirmed that the technology helps power its cloud gaming platform.
