HTC’s low-cost Desire 612 hits Verizon on October 9 for $0 down

First appearing on the scene back in February during Mobile World Congress, the HTC Desire 610 arrived at AT&T back in July. Now, Verizon is set to launch the handset, though it has been repackaged as the Desire 612.

Much like its AT&T counterpart, the Desire 612 is equipped with HTC’s Sense UI on top of Android 4.4 KitKat. The low-cost phone sports a 4.7-inch screen with a 480 x 854 pixel resolution. The Desire 612 is powered by Qualcomm’s 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor that is paired with 1GB of RAM. You’ll find an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 1.3-megapixel camera on the front of the device.

HTC included just 8GB of internal storage, but thankfully, storage is expandable up to 128GB through the Micro SD card slot. You’ll also find the much-lauded BoomSound speakers on the front. The Desire 612 also has 2040mAh battery under the hood.

The main differences between the Verizon version of the Desire and AT&T’s model boil down to radios and the interesting black and red paint job. The Desire 612 supports Big Red’s XLTE network, which is a beefed-up version of its already-existing 4G LTE network. While Verizon has several XLTE-ready handsets, the new network has yet to roll out across the United States.

If you want to get your hands on the Desire 612, it will be available for purchase starting October 9 for $0 with a two-year contract.
