Tired of big phones? You can now buy the Xperia Z3 Compact in the U.S.

Despite bringing its bigger sibling to Verizon and T-Mobile, Sony had yet to make any official announcement regarding the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. While it appeared in Sony’s online store last week, you couldn’t actually buy the 4.7-inch smartphone. Now, however, that seems to be rectified as it is currently available unlocked for $530.

Unfortunately for those interested in purchasing the Z3 Compact, the handset is currently backordered, though we presume it will start shipping soon. You can purchase the Z3 Compact in black, white, green, or orange. Keep in mind that the Z3 Compact is a GSM/LTE device, so it should play nice with AT&T’s and T-Mobile’s networks, but not Verizon’s and Sprint’s.

The Z3 Compact contains the same quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor found in the Z3, though it’s equipped with 2GB of RAM instead of the Z3’s 3GB. Dominating the front of the Z3 Compact is its 4.6-inch 1280 x 720 pixel display. You’ll also find the same dust- and water-resistance as on the Z3, as well as Android 4.4 KitKat.

While most mini versions of flagship smartphones compromise in terms of processing power and overall specifications, the main draw of the Z3 Compact is an overall lack of such compromises. For all intents and purposes, the Z3 Compact is the Z3, just smaller.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 is adding an S Pen, replacing this year’s Galaxy Note
Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Note 20 S Pen.

Samsung's Unpacked event on August 11 is going to be a doozy. President of Mobile Communications, TM Roh, just dropped a ton of new information about what we can expect from the announcement. In news that will shock precisely nobody, he confirmed that Samsung will unveil new foldables at the event -- but it's the details that have us intrigued.

Roh first makes it clear that this next generation, expected to be the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, will be "armed with more durable, stronger materials." That's critical to the widespread adoption of foldables, which have made strides but are still inarguably more fragile than non-folding phones. But that strength matters in a very specific area for Samsung: It will be announcing a new S Pen specifically for foldables. It'll likely be different from the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra's, which could damage current foldable display coverings unless Samsung also unveils dramatically stronger "Ultra Thin Glass." The question is whether this will also lead to shortcomings in features like pressure sensitivity, tracking, and accuracy.

Samsung bets big on the Galaxy A in the U.S. with 5 phones, starting at $110
Galaxy A52 Colors

Samsung is bringing a slew of new A series phones to the U.S. The company announced its new A52 and A72 globally last month, but it turns out there are a ton more devices in the A series, and many of them will be available stateside.

Unfortunately, the highest-end device, the A72, will not be available in the U.S. -- though given the existence, and regular discounts, of the Galaxy S20 FE, that may not be such a big deal. Even with the absence of the A72, however, there are five A series devices to launch in the U.S.
