In an interview with Newsarama, second-unit director Brian Smrz reveals his lead role in creating that scene, and confirms Quicksilver’s return in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse. He also hints at the possibility of a Quicksilver solo movie down the road.
“They want me to start pretty soon, on the storyboarding and stuff,” said Smrz of his work on the Days of Future Past sequel, X-Men: Apocalypse. “I’ll be working on the next X-Men for the next month or so part-time, and by the end of the year it’ll be full-time.”

“There will be another Quicksilver scene, which I’m looking forward to,” he added. “That’ll be fun.”
Given his long resume of superhero films — he’s served as second-unit director for seven DC and Marvel movies in addition to Rise of the Planet of the Apes and the upcoming Terminator Genisys — Smrz was asked whether he’d like to make a jump to the lead director’s chair anytime soon, and his response seemed to indicate that Quicksilver’s celebrated debut may lead to a bigger spotlight on the character.
“We talked about Quicksilver before,” he said when asked what sort of film he’d like to direct. “I’d love to do a Quicksilver as a solo film because there’s a lot to enjoy with that character.”
