It’s time for one last ride in the first trailer from Furious 7

As promised, the first trailer for Furious 7 debuted over the weekend and the next installment has somehow managed to up the ante for insane car stunts with just the first sequence of footage that appears in the preview.

The trailer kicks off with a look at the old crew back in action — and in this case, that action involves a fleet of cars parachuting out of an airplane in order to stage a rescue of an unidentified girl being transported in an armored bus equipped with side-mounted machine guns. And as anyone familiar with the Fast & Furious will tell you, that’s probably just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the film’s crazy set pieces.

As one might expect, the trailer — and likely the entire film — is packed with reverent nods to deceased franchise star Paul Walker, who was digitally added to significant portions of the movie after his death in November 2013 using a mix of various body doubles (which included his brothers) and digital editing. At one point in the trailer, Walker’s franchise co-star Vin Diesel refers to the team’s upcoming adventure as “one last ride” as the camera focuses on Walker.

The upcoming film is the first to unfold after the events of the 2006 sequel The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, which had been the last chapter in the franchise’s continuity up to this point. The conclusion of 2013’s Fast & Furious 6 led directly into the events of Tokyo Drift, and Furious 7 picks up directly after that film, with Dominick (Diesel), Brian (Walker), and the rest of their remaining crew out to avenge the death of one of their own.

Directed by James Wan, Furious 7 hits theaters April 3, 2015.

Jason Momoa may be Fast & Furious 10’s villain
Jason Momoa runs in a city street in Sweet Girl.

The Fast and Furious movies always faced a challenge when it comes to finding an adversary who can believably menace Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto. However, Universal Pictures may have found a formidable bad guy for Fast and Furious 10. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jason Momoa is in talks to join the cast and potentially play the film's primary villain.

Momoa is best known for his role as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones and his appearances as Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe. Momoa will headline his latest DC sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, later this year. Some of Momoa's other genre credits include Stargate Atlantis, the 2021 remake of Dune, and the leading role in AppleTV+'s original series See.

3 underrated (HBO) Max movies you should watch this weekend (June 28-30)
A girl looks at a boy in House at the End of the Street.

June is surprisingly over, and with it, a great month for movies comes to a satisfactory close. You've probably watched Inside Out 2 or Bad Boys: Ride or Die or maybe even The Bikeriders. From blockbusters to indie fare, the theatrical movie business has been robust and healthy.

The same goes for streaming. Netflix had a big hit with Richard Linklater's Hit Man, while Amazon Prime Video recently premiered the latest bonkers season of The Boys. HBO and Max have been quieter, but their robust library speaks volumes to the streamer's high quality. The following three films are older, but are just as worth your time as new hits like House of the Dragon season 2.
