Blizzard has announced the first expansion for its Warcraft-themed digital card game, Hearthstone, called Goblins vs. Gnomes. The expansion, due in December 2014, adds 120 new cards to the game, shaking up the metagame with new abilities like exploding sheep and their attendant strategies. Goblins and gnomes are the mechanical tinkerers of Azeroth, so expect plenty of gadgetry and explosions.
Hearthstone previously expanded with Curse of Naxxramas, but that was branded as an “adventure,” since cards unlocked over the course of a site-specific series of encounters. Goblins vs. Gnomes is the first “expansion,” more broadly increasing the game’s card pool. There have not yet been pricing details or a specific release date shared, but expect those in short order.
