UPDATE: Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD will indeed come to PlayStation 4 in spring 2015, along with the previously announced HD port of Final Fantasy VII. Square Enix made the official announcement during a PlayStation China press conference on December 11 in Shanghai (via Gematsu).

The collection will cost $50 in North America and include Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X: Eternal Calm, Final Fantasy X-2, Final Fantasy X-2: Last Mission, and bonus audio. Both the Final Fantasy X/X-2  and Final Fantasy VII ports will include “system-exclusive features,” but no further details were given.

ORIGINAL POST: An HD remaster of Final Fantasy X/X-2 might be coming to PlayStation 4 in spring 2015, according to images supposedly taken from Square Enix’s French online store and posted on NeoGAF. Users spotted the store listing and box art before the page was taken down and the Google cache cleared, so note that these could be faked.

Both games already received high defintion remasters in 2013 for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. It is not clear what, if anything, would separate this new release from those previous ports other than the new platform. According to the store page, the PS4 release will be available in Printemps (French for spring) 2015.

Final Fantasy X was first released in 2001 for PlayStation 2. Critics praised its story, visuals, and voice cast, which included John DiMaggio, known for his work as Marcus Fenix in Gears of War and Bender in Futurama, as both Wakka and Kimahi in the English language version. X-2 followed in 2003 as the first direct sequel in the long-running series of role-playing games. It was also the first game in the franchise to feature an all-female playable cast, the first to have no musical contribution from longtime composer Nobuo Uematsu, and one of few games in the series to have multiple endings.

PlayStation Portal 2: 8 features we want in Sony’s next-gen handheld
A PlayStation Portal boots up.

After the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita, there wasn't much hope that Sony would create another handheld system. Both consoles failed to establish themselves as meaningful parts of PlayStation's ecosystems despite having passionate fan bases. That's what made the initial reveal of the PlayStation Portal so surprising, at least until we knew exactly what it was. As an accessory, the PlayStation Portal is a decent device for some situations. It makes remote play easy and combines all the cool features of the DualSense controller with a great display. However, it does leave a lot to be desired for those hoping for a bit more from a new PlayStation device. Should Sony decide to iterate on this novel idea, there are a few features we think it needs to have to be a true success.

We're not going to ask Sony to completely overhaul what it established with the PlayStation Portal.  For as much as we'd love for a fully dedicated handheld like a Vita 2, that's just too far beyond what we can hope for.

PlayStation Plus’ most notable free April offerings come from Microsoft
Four players stand together in the 4v4 PvP mode of Minecraft Legends.

Sony outlined all the new offerings PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers can expect in April; surprisingly, Microsoft is the company behind two of this month's four offerings, Minecraft Legends, and the Overwatch 2 Mega Bundle.

On April 2, PS Plus can get those two things free of charge in addition to Immortals of Aveum and Skul: The Hero Slayer. Immortals of Aveum is a single-player shooter where players use magic instead of weapons. Although the thing it's most notable for is flopping upon its release, Immortals of Aveum is still a solid shooter that you might have missed out on, and you should give it a shot now that you can get it through PS Plus. Meanwhile, Skul: The Hero Slayer is a tough 2D platformer roguelike that should entertain fans of that genre for quite some time.

PlayStation VR2 production reportedly paused by Sony

Sony is reportedly pausing production of the PlayStation VR2 headsets because it has a backlog of unsold headsets.

This report comes from Bloomberg, which claims that PSVR2 sales have slowed every quarter since its February 2023 release, causing stocks of the device to build up. It says Sony has produced 2 million headsets but reportedly hasn't sold through them yet. As a result, it's apparently pausing the production on new units until it works through some of that backlog, according to Bloomberg's anonymous sources.
