In the wake of news that 20th Century Fox had broken the global box-office record with its 2014 movie revenue, the studio announced new release dates for several of its upcoming films — including the delayed Assassin’s Creed movie and the Gambit solo movie featuring Channing Tatum as the popular X-Men character.

After being removed from the studio calendar back in September, Assassin’s Creed will now hit theaters December 21, 2016. The film is still set to star Michael Fassbender, who’s also producing the project, and will be directed by Fassbender’s director on Macbeth, Justin Kurzel. Assassin’s Creed was originally scheduled to hit theaters this summer, but was reportedly delayed due to scheduling issues with Fassbender and the need for script revisions.

The Gambit movie also received an official release date, with the X-Men spinoff now targeting a premiere on October 7, 2016. Tatum is attached to play the energy-manipulating Cajun thief, with production on the film expected to begin soon.

Fox also announced new release dates for the still-untitled sequel to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (July 14, 2017) and a potential sequel to The Fantastic Four reboot (June 2, 2017).

Disney shifts release dates for Marvel movies, Star Wars films, and Avatar sequels
wade-gasping-deadpool-2

The writers' strike has lasted about one-and-a-half months so far, and it doesn't appear to be ending anytime soon. And now, Disney is making some major schedule changes to almost all of its upcoming franchise films. Avatar fans are going to feel it the most. Avatar 3 has been pushed back a year from December 2024 to December 19, 2025. The other sequels, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, have been delayed to December 21, 2029, and December 19, 2031, respectively. That's a three-year delay for both titles from their previous release dates.

Marvel's 2024 slate is also getting a big shake-up, with Captain America: Brave New World moving away from its summer opening slot on May 3, 2024, to July 26, 2024. The Thunderbolts movie is shifting from July 26, 2024, to December 20, 2024, the former release date for Avatar 3. That will make it only the second MCU movie to be released in December after Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Sony sets a release date for its GameStop movie, Dumb Money
Shoppers walking in front of a GameStop storefront.

Two years ago, the infamous GameStop short squeeze allowed armchair investors to stick it to the hedge funds by driving up the stock price to unsustainable highs. Some ordinary investors even made millions off of the stock, while others lost everything they had gained and more when the price came crashing back to Earth. This saga has already been explored in documentaries like GameStop: Rise of the Players. But this fall, Sony will release a dramatic retelling of these events in a film called Dumb Money.

Via Deadline, Sony has set Friday, October 20 as the release date for Dumb Money, which is based on Ben Mezrich's book The Antisocial Network. It's described as "a scathing, funny and emotional portrayal of how a loosely affiliated group of amateur investors and internet denizens crushed one of the biggest hedge funds on Wall Street and upended the establishment."

The best Rocky and Creed movies, ranked
Rocky gets ready to throw a punch in Rocky.

In 1975, a little-known actor named Sylvester Stallone (Tulsa King) watched boxer Chuck Wepner take the legendary Muhammad Ali to the 15th round of a heavyweight championship match. Wepner lost, but the underdog made a lasting impression on Stallone. Legend has it that Stallone went home and wrote the first draft to Rocky, which he finished three days later. One year later, Rocky became the highest-grossing film of 1976 and won the Oscar for Best Picture.

Nearly 50 years later, Rocky is one of the most successful franchises ever. The franchise is known for its underdog mentality, motivational training montages, and riveting boxing matches. With the addition of Michael B. Jordan (Without Remorse) and the Creed films, the Rocky franchise has inspired a new generation of fans looking for an unlikely hero. With Creed III in theaters, I had the Wepner-like task of ranking the Rocky and Creedmovies from worst to best. Keep reading to see which film took the top spot.
