Specifically, the horsepower-oriented website says it’s supposed to have done it in 6:59.19, which is a big deal because that puts it in exclusive under-seven company with the Porsche 918 Spyder and the Radical SR8. The list of cars now behind puts things further in perspective: Nissan GT-R NISMO, Dodge Viper ACR, and the Lexus LFA.
The Z06 is powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that gives it 650 horsepower to the back wheels via a seven-speed manual or an eight-speed paddle shift transmission, the latter of which is said to have been in the Corvette in question. This corvette was also equipped with the Z07 aero package.
Tightly affixing our skeptics hat, the caveat here is that there’s nothing to currently confirm this, apart from the promise that HD dash cam footage will be released “soon.”
This info was packaged with video that claims that this is the sub-seven “vette, but there are a couple things that give us pause. Off the bat, while very likely, there’s nothing to confirm this was the very car to set that time, if it indeed did. Second, the presence of other cars on the track (including a mysterious camoed hatchback), and while that doesn’t necessarily rule anything out, it couldn’t have helped if the driver was trying to set a time. Some of the late brakes in the corners also makes us think that this probably isn’t footage of the time-setting run.
Further hammering significant nails in the coffin for this story is that Chevrolet itself has come out and denied the lap time has happened, as true as it must want it to be. This denial is just about the most official part of this lofty claim, so until someone produces some irrefutable proof, like the mysterious dash cam footage or official Nurburgring lap time results, we’re going call this one bunk.
