Another insane trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road hits YouTube

It didn’t seem possible, but the new, international trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road has somehow managed to be even more wonderfully loony than the first totally crazy trailer.

The latest teaser for the film offers up a nice mix of post-apocalyptic mayhem and high-speed desert chaos filled with shots of Tom Hardy as the iconic wasteland warrior Max Rockatansky pursuing, being pursued by, and otherwise tangling with roving marauders and a tough-as-nails woman named Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron. Oh, and there are explosions. Lots of ’em.

The first trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road debuted during Comic-Con International in San Diego last year, and quickly became a viral hit with its impressive collection of footage that promised nothing short of a wild ride when the film hits theaters later this year.

Co-written and directed by Mad Max franchise creator George Miller, Fury Road is the fourth film in the series and the first to not feature Mel Gibson in the title role that put him on Hollywood’s radar. Along with Hardy and Theron, the film also stars Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Nathan Jones, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

Mad Max: Fury Road is scheduled to arrive in 2D and 3D theaters May 15, 2015.

Furiosa: Why the Mad Max prequel is the most anticipated 2024 action movie
A woman hides in shadow in Furiosa.

The post-apocalyptic Mad Max franchise was put on ice just as the acclaimed Fury Road reboot was fleshing out its world, but Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is finally set to release this year. Director George Miller's prequel (Lorenzo's Oil, Happy Feet), expands on the backstory of Imperator Furiosa, a character originally played by Charlize Theron in the 2015 reboot.

Before crossing paths with Tom Hardy's Mad Max, Anya Taylor-Joy will play a younger Furiosa as she's kidnapped from her home in the Green Place and thrust into a war between two Tyrants. While it still seems like it will be some time before a sequel to Fury Road finally premieres, this prequel seems like an exciting reason to delve back into this sci-fi dystopia. Between the star power of Taylor-Joy and Miller returning to the director's chair, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has all the potential to be 2024's most promising action movie and one of the most anticipated movies of 2024.

Max is now available to watch on YouTube Primetime Channels
Max on YouTube Primetime Channels as seen on an iPhone.

Max — the streaming service that houses all the shows and movies from the combined Warner Bros. Discovery universe — is now available to watch in full on YouTube. Or, rather, on YouTube Primetime Channels.

That's the somewhat clunky name for the scheme by which you can watch subscription services from within YouTube itself. It's exactly the same idea as what's going on with NFL Sunday Ticket. You subscribe and watch on YouTube and pay via your Google account. It's also pretty much the exact same thing as Max on Amazon Prime Channels. But unlike the Amazon options, only one flavor of Max is available on YouTube PrimeTime Channels. You'll get the full version, sans advertising, for $16 a month. (It rounds up to a little more than $18 a month after taxes.)

10 best movie trailers of 2023, ranked
Furiosa leans back on a wall of fire in Furiosa.

2023 is in the rearview mirror now as the holiday season creeps upon us, meaning it's time for the oh-so-fun season of year-end lists. While there will undoubtedly be dozens of lists commemorating the best movies of the year, it's important to note a smaller yet essential sort of video: the movie trailer.

A good movie trailer is composed of a lot of things, but the biggest aspect of a successful trailer is one that accentuates the hype of a movie while not spoiling the film itself. A trailer that spoils a movie's entire plot is the worst. It's also the worst, though, when a trailer leaves you so in the dark about the movie that a viewer feels no interest in the film itself. It's a delicate balance that only a few of the best trailers really smash it out of the park.
