Get an early look at Season Five of Game of Thrones with two new clips

Fans of HBO’s Game of Thrones still have just over a month until the fifth season premieres, but the network is offering a glimpse of what’s to come with a pair of clips from the upcoming batch of new episodes.

The two clips were released via “The Sight,” HBO’s promotional campaign that draws its title from the prophetic ability displayed by some characters in George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels. The first clip features Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) discussing her views on leadership with Podrick Payne (Daniel Portman), while the second clip lets fans eavesdrop on a conversation between Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Mance Rayder (Ciarán Hinds).

The fifth season of Game of Thrones is expected to draw heavily from the fourth and fifth novels of Martin’s series, “A Feast for Crows” and “A Dance With Dragons,” with series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss returning as executive producers of the hit series and as showrunners for the program. A host of new cast members have already been announced for the fifth season, including Alexander Siddig, Jonathan Pryce, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

Netflix's 3 Body Problem isn't just the streaming service's long-awaited adaptation of the acclaimed Chinese science fiction novel of the same name by Liu Cixin. It's also Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss' follow-up to their HBO smash hit. In many ways, the Netflix series, which Benioff and Weiss co-created with Alexander Woo, is a worthy successor to a show like Thrones. Like that game-changing HBO drama, it's an adaptation of the kind of famously complex source material that many understandably believed to be unadaptable.

To Benioff, Weiss, and Woo's credit, they prove that's not true across 3 Body Problem's debut eight-episode season. Together, the trio and their collaborators successfully streamline the science-driven narrative of Cixin's original novel, turning it into an episodic story that is both easily digestible and propulsive. While 3 Body Problem gets a lot right, though, it's missing the one thing that made Game of Thrones such a beloved show in the first place. To put it frankly, its characters just aren't all that memorable.

HBO has multiple incredible shows. After all, as the cable network's slogan goes, it's not television, it's HBO. However, even its most devoted fans can't say it remained consistent throughout. Indeed, while some seasons were positively masterful, others were outright embarrassing, proving that when you play the game of thrones, there truly is no middle ground.
