With 887 hp and 884 lb-ft on tap, Brabus’ ‘Rocket 900’ lives up to its name

If the AMG line is the special forces unit of Mercedes-Benz, Brabus is the heavy artillery, a group that symbolizes raw power, destruction, and wide-eyed intimidation.

The vaunted Mercedes tuner has announced the ‘Rocket 900,’ an S65 AMG-based monster that’s headed for the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

As we all know, the S65 AMG is no slouch. With a 6.0-liter, 621-horsepower biturbo V12 under its hood, the luxurious ‘super sedan’ can hit 60 mph in 4.2 seconds before topping out at an electronically-limited 155 mph.

Brabus, per usual, cranks the performance up to 11. The biturbo V12 has been to the gym and now displaces 6.3 liters thanks to increased cylinder bore and a longer stroke. The factory turbos have been axed as well, replaced by units with larger compressors and turbines. There’s also a new intake manifold, modified exhaust manifold, and stainless steel exhaust piping to keep the airflow coming.

The result is a peak output of 887 hp and a whopping 1,106 pound-feet of torque, but for the sake of the seven-speed transmission, it’s been dialed back to a modest 884 lb-ft. 0 to 60 mph now comes in 3.7 seconds and 0 to 124 mph is accomplished in just 9.1 seconds.

The tuner has also thrown out the silly speed limiter, so the Rocket 900 will run all the way up to 217 mph while begging for more.

Another feature of note is the exhaust tone management system, made possible with the use of electronic butterfly valves. At the push of a button, drivers can dampen the throaty V12’s bellow by selecting the ‘Coming Home’ mode, which will surely be appreciated by anyone in the same zip code.

The car also equips Brabus’ own iBusiness multimedia system, which integrates an iPad mini and Mac Mini into vehicle’s infotainment.

The Rocket 900, in all its carbon fiber, leather, and Alcantara glory, costs $390,371, which includes the $222,222 cost of the S65 AMG.

The Kia EV3 could be the cheap electric SUV we’ve been waiting for
White Kia EV3

The Kia EV9 was already one of the cheapest ways to get an electric SUV, but now the company is taking things to the next level. After teasing the Kia EV3 last year, the car is now official.

The EV3 is built to be a slightly smaller, cheaper version of the EV9 -- following the path of the Rivian R2, which arrived after the Rivian R1S. It's certainly not as technologically advanced as the EV9, but it still looks unmistakably like a modern Kia, and is clearly a sibling of the larger SUV. On the outside, the vehicle has the same split taillights and very similar Tiger Face front. But it is quite a bit smaller. The vehicle will be available in nine finishes -- however only "Aventurine Green" and "Terracotta" are being announced right now.

White Kia EV3

Kia is on a roll. Hot on the heels of the success of the Kia EV6 and EV9, the company is already announcing what could be its cheapest electric vehicle yet -- the Kia EV3.

The Kia EV line seems to follow the rule of lower numbers indicating a lower price — and if so, the EV3 will end up being the cheapest electric car Kia has released to date. That, however, thankfully doesn’t mean that the EV3 will be a low-end car — it just means that Kia may be pushing the boundaries on electric car pricing.

Kia EV3 vs Tesla Model Y: Can Kia’s new entry-level car take on Tesla?
White Kia EV3

The Kia EV3 is finally coming, and it could well end up being the best small-size electric SUV to buy when it finally rolls out. It's smaller than the Kia EV9, but it offers many of the same design elements and features. But there's another small-size electric car that's currently one of the most popular vehicles out there -- the Tesla Model Y.

How does the Kia EV3 compare with the Tesla Model Y? And is one vehicle actually better than the other? We put the Kia EV3 and the Tesla Model Y head-to-head to find out.
Design
The design of the Kia EV3 is very different than that of the Model Y, though they're both reasonably good-looking vehicles.
