Quickly, Robin — boot up the Bat-PlayStation!
Sony has revealed another limited edition PlayStation 4 bundle, this time themed around Rocksteady’s upcoming and highly-anticipated Batman: Arkham Knight. Available for $450, the Limited Edition Batman: Arkham Knight PS4 Bundle includes a steel-grey PS4 console with a custom Batman faceplate, a matching DualShock 4 controller, and of course the game itself, the exciting conclusion to Rocksteady’s beloved Arkham trilogy. Alternatively, fans can also order the Standard Edition bundle for $400, which includes the game and a regular, black PS4 and controller.
Sony also announced that the PlayStation 4 will have timed exclusivity on all DLC content for Arkham Knight. That means that PS4 gamers will get the first crack at any additional content, such as new missions or skins for Batman and the Batmobile, before anyone else. It’s not yet clear when that same content will make its way to PC and Xbox One.
Pre-orders for both editions are available now here.
Batman: Arkham Knight concludes the epic trilogy that Rocksteady began in 2009 with Batman: Arkham Asylum. Its 2011 follow-up, Batman: Arkham City, expanded its scope from the isolated island asylum to a whole district of Gotham City. The open world gameplay and fluid brawling mechanics developed in those two games has been hugely influential in the years following, with recognizable echoes in blockbuster games like Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. Warner Bros. Games picked up the torch in 2013 with Batman: Arkham Origins, which was solid filler for fans who wanted more of the same, but ultimately felt derivative of, and failed to substantially innovate on, Rocksteady’s framework.
Anticipation for Rocksteady’s return to the franchise has grown to a fever pitch. Sony’s promotion of a bundled, limited edition console is indicative of their confidence that this will be the game to finally lure many holdouts to buy in to the next generation of hardware. Batman: Arkham Knight arrives on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC on June 23.
