Acer announced the Acer Chromebase on April 1, the latest addition to its Chrome OS product line. The Chromebase is the first all-in-one Chrome OS desktop with a touch display.
The new Acer Chromebase will come with a full HD resolution and a 178-degree viewing angle display that incorporates 10-point touch technology. Acer is marketing the product to anyone who wants a computer for both work and play. It boots up in 10 seconds, and comes with multiple layers of built-in security. This reduces maintenance for users by keeping viruses and malware at bay.
Sporting an NVIDIA Tegra K1 quad-core processor, the Acer Chromebase is designed to provide a responsive, rich multi-tasking experience. And all the while, the device itself will stay quiet, even while handling heavy workloads.
The Chromebase has an HDMI output, and USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports. It also has 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 for wireless connectivity. In terms of video and media, the Chromebase comes with a built-in HD webcam and two 3W audio speakers. The product is VESA-compliant, meaning it provides flexible viewing options when mounted to a VESA-compatible stand, bracket or arm in public areas.
The Chrome OS allows multiple users and accounts while synching items such as videos, music, and documents. All files are backed up with the operator’s Google account as well, and Acer provides 100 gigabytes of Google Drive storage to its customers.
Acer says that the Chromebase will be available in North America and the Asia Pacific market in the second quarter.
