Apple Pay Adds 10 More retailers, Bringing Total To 68

Even as problems at checkout may be keeping customers from using Apple Pay, both retailers and banks continue to add their support to the service. An update to the Apple Pay website last night has now added even more well-known merchants to the list.

Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue demonstrated Apple Pay in use at the Oracle Arena last month. The arena is now among those added to the Apple Pay website, along with the Phoenix Suns’ Airway Center, as Apple Insider noticed.

Arenas aren’t the only new places you’ll be able to use Apple Pay. A number of popular retailers including GameSpot and T-Mobile retail stores have been added as well. Fast food chain Raley’s and two other eating establishments, FireHouse Subs and Luby’s, now support Apple Pay as well. Acme and Davis Food and Drug were also added to the list of supported retailers.

This comes on the heels of a number of new banks adding Apple Pay support, so not only are there new places to buy, but new ways to pay. There aren’t many big names among the banks added earlier this week, but a number of smaller, local banks and credit unions make Apple Pay more accessible for customers who prefer to keep their funds closer to home.

For the time being, only owners of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are able to use Apple Pay. As we’ve seen, the Apple Watch will also support Apple Pay, so the service is sure to see even more use when the watch arrives on customers’ wrists later this month, starting on April 24.

The Apple Pay website also updated the list of companies that will soon support the service. Marriot, Renaissance Hotels, Urban Outfitters, and Pep Boys are among those listed.
