Matthew McConaughey feels not so alright alright watching new Star Wars teaser

Matthew Mcconaughey's reaction to Star Wars teaser #2 - Celebrity reactions
Digital Trends tissue budget flew threw the roof this week as interns were rushed all over town to acquire Kleenex, only to find out that they had completely sold out. It was the day we had all feared — the tissue-geddon — the day the second teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens hit the Internet. Tears of nerd joy have flowed left and right since the new teaser trailer for JJ Abrams highly anticipated Star Wars sequel was released, and the great man from Texas was no exception.

Flying high above the Earth, it seems Matthew McConaughey was hit worse than most of us. While hurtling through space and time in the movie Interstellar, he takes a moment to appreciate the great work that the men and women of Star Wars have put into this newest installment. Take a look at this piece of viral genius, and if you feel like crying along with him that’s OK (we did, too).

It’s okay, Matthew! It’ll be alright! While things got a little intense (like the circus), we have so much more to see before the release of this space epic on December 18, 2015. We would like to thank Matthew McConaughey for reminding us that it’s okay to cry Solo, sometimes.

As expected, Star Wars has had us on an emotional eleVader (sorry) since day one, but we have a new hope that this won’t go the way of the prequels. In fact it’d be very Jar jarring if these were bad films. We hate to get all Greedo, but we won’t pay to see them seven times if they’re not up to par. Alright, alright, alright, I’m done, I’m going to go listen to some Tupaca.

Obi-Wan Kenobi review: A superior Star Wars tale
Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the 2022 Disney+ series.

A fairly tired trope that Lucasfilm has been using for years now is filling the gaps in and around the prequel and original Star Wars trilogies. That being said, aside from a new trilogy set beyond Return of the Jedi, an Ewan McGregor-led Obi-Wan Kenobi project has still arguably been the most in-demand Star Wars project for over a decade. The prequels may have been a mostly rocky endeavor, but if nothing else, Revenge of the Sith stuck the landing and proved to be a suitably grandiose Shakespearean-like tragedy that fits the "sci-fi space opera" subgenre that the franchise coined.

In the first two episodes reviewed by Digital Trends, Lucasfilm and Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series begins with a somber, melancholic look at the Star Wars universe struggling in a post-Order 66 galaxy, showing fans the last iteration of McGregor's revered Jedi Master, who deserves one final hurrah. With a new kind of threat forced upon him and a charming supporting character that is sure to please die-hard fans, Obi-Wan Kenobi is a triumphant return of a beloved character thanks to a compelling story and outstanding performances from the cast.

Star Wars: How Obi-Wan will face his greatest threats yet
Split image of the Grand Inquisitor, Obi-Wan, and Darth Vader.

In what has arguably been the most in-demand piece of Star Wars content aside from the sequel trilogy, Ewan McGregor is finally set to make his triumphant return as franchise icon Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+ in just under two months. Though the prequel trilogy wasn't received particularly well, Episode III - Revenge of the Sith specifically had a noticeably strong reception, with McGregor's younger take on the character being one of the best things to come out of the trio of films as a whole.

That makes it easy to see why there'd be so much nostalgic fanfare behind this long-sought-after return, but it will also take a lot to sell fans on the stakes of Obi-Wan Kenobi since most are well aware of where the story follows in canon. The highly anticipated trailer from earlier this month looked incredibly promising, as it heavily emphasized this limited series as more than just another TV show in Disney's rotation. Complete with John Williams' immaculate score, fans saw enticing glimpses of who would be nipping at Kenobi's heels, and the context of the series' place in the timeline will perhaps present the greatest challenge that the revered Jedi Master has ever had to face.
In these Dark Times ...
The aforementioned Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith was a grand tragedy for the Republic, Obi-Wan, Anakin, and more, leaving the galaxy under the oppressive thumb of the Empire for the next 30-plus years -- known as the Dark Times. Obi-Wan and Anakin's spectacular and gut-wrenching duel on the volcanic planet of Mustafar was a grandiose finish to the trilogy, making the context for episodes IV-VI that much more heartbreaking.
