Ever since making its debut back in 2008, the Google Chrome browser has amassed an absolutely massive library of useful, productivity-boosting, and insightful extensions.
Wurstify is not one of those extensions. It’s stupid, unnecessary, and very likely to zap your productivity at work — but that doesn’t make it any less hilarious. We highly recommend you install it. Like, now.
Once you have the extension switched on in your browser, Wurstify will use facial recognition algorithms to detect all the faces on any webpage you visit. Once it finds a face, it will instantly superimpose a realistic Conchita Wurst beard onto it — regardless of the image source or the face’s orientation. According to the maker’s website, doing this “significantly increases the total number of beards in all web pages you visit, resulting in a drastically improved user experience.” Brilliant.
It’s not the first program of its kind, but Wurstify is definitely one of the most polished takes on the idea that we’ve ever encountered. The accuracy of the chin-finding algorithm is undeniably impressive, and the program is so good at aligning/orienting facial hair that, in some cases, it’s hard to tell if the beard is real or fake.
Give it an install and take a stroll through Facebook. You’ll laugh until you pee your pants.
