Fizzics promises to pour a perfect draft-beer head, straight from the bottle

If you love the perfect head on draft beer, but don’t have room for a kegerator at home, meet Fizzics.

Fizzics is a new Indiegogo project designed to bring out all of the flavors of bottled beer with a new method of pouring. You simply open the lid of the Keurig-like machine, insert a beer, and drop the device’s tube into the bottle. Then, you close the lid and pull the tap forward to begin dispensing your beverage. At the end, push the lever backward for a dollop of perfect head.

The device itself doesn’t require any CO2 cartridges, which means no refills; all it needs is your favorite beer, whether it’s an IPA or a lager, and four AA batteries for power. (It’s portable, after all.)

What’s it doing to mimic the head of a draft beer from the bottle? Creating uniform bubbles with high-frequency sound waves. While this may not seem like a big deal, randomly packed bubbles typically result in less froth and creaminess, and more of a “grainy” mouth feel. When large bubbles absorb smaller ones after the pour, which is known as disproportionation, the beer loses flavor. Fizzics slows the rate at which the tinier bubbles give up their gas to larger ones in the liquid.

Meet Fizzics. A scientific revolution for the modern beer drinker.

In the end, you have a delectable beverage designed to please your taste buds while quenching your thirst. You can also choose the exact amount of foam you want to top your beer. When you’re done, you can use a glass of warm water to flush any remaining residue, and you’re good to go.

To get your hands on a Fizzics, you need to pledge $149 on the Indiegogo campaign page. It’ll ship to you by October 2015, and while it may not come in time for beach season, you’ll save 35 percent off of the retail price of $229.
