This GTA V mod recreates Vice City in all its neon glory

Vice City Converted To GTA V

Sure, Grand Theft Auto V is a great game all by itself, but the biggest argument for playing the PC version of the game lies in the number and quality of the mods available for it. Now a team of modders has taken it upon themselves to recreate 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City within GTA V.

Okay, so maybe they haven’t recreated the entire game, but what they’ve managed to do so far is impressive nonetheless. A 12-minute video released on YouTube shows the titular Vice City in all its sun-drenched glory as the player in control explores the city in a number of different vehicles.

If you played the original game or even Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, the setting is sure to look familiar. What’s even more impressive is what they have accomplished in such a short amount of time. Watching as YouTube user taltigolt navigates the city by plane and helicopter, the city looks just as it should.

Of course, there are some things missing from the map. Most notably, the city is entirely empty aside from the player character, with no pedestrians or other vehicles on the road, but this is a work in progress we’re talking about.

Unfortunately the map isn’t currently available for download, nor is there any word on when it will be. A different mod on GTA5-Mods also brings Vice City to GTA V, but this is an early work in progress and the developer notes that only Starfish Island and Little Havana are currently available.

In the meantime, if this video has you aching to revisit Vice City and you don’t feel like digging out your old copy of the game, there is a mobile version of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City that was released back in 2012, but you’ll have to deal with some rather awkward touch controls in playing it.

Grand Theft Auto V makes its surprise return to Xbox Game Pass today

Xbox Game Pass is kicking off July with a major surprise, as Grand Theft Auto V has returned to the service. Rockstar's sales juggernaut leads an otherwise light month for Game Pass, which brings Capcom's Exoprimal as a day-one launch.

This isn't the first time that Grand Theft Auto V has been on Game Pass. It was previously on the service circa 2021 but removed from it that August. Rockstar has a history of putting its games on Game Pass for a brief window before pulling it, as it also did with Red Dead Redemption 2.

Ever since the GTA franchise became what it is today with Grand Theft Auto 3, Rockstar has packed their worlds full of colorful and rich characters. While we've only been able to control male characters up until now (though that is set to change if the GTA 6 rumors are true), they have all had distinct and interesting personalities and stories. That said, sometimes it's the side characters that can steal the show too. Looking back at the entire series, we've come up with our picks for the best GTA characters of all time.
Carl 'CJ' Johnson -- GTA: San Andreas

Good old Carl Johnson, better known as CJ, is way more than just a meme. San Andreas was the second game in the series to really focus on character in a major way, and the team nailed it with their lead. Not only was the entire cast filled with bonafide actors, but CJ's personal story as a gang member whose mother is murdered was far more nuanced and emotional than the media would lead you to believe. The real draw was the relationship CJ had with the main antagonist Officer Tenpenny (who may or may not be mentioned later on). This game set the standard for how Rockstar would reveal more about the characters and world through casual conversation throughout the story.

The good news is that there are no requirements in terms of progression, level, or anything else of that sort that you need to meet before you have the option to buy it. The bad news, which is the case with all properties in GTA Online is that it is expensive.
