Officially licensed Pokemon puzzler to hit iOS, Android this year

Test Your Puzzle Skills with Pokémon Shuffle Mobile!
A Pokemon-themed puzzler featuring characters from Nintendo’s long-running portable RPG franchise will launch for iOS and Android devices later this year, licensing corporation The Pokemon Company confirmed this week.

Pokemon Shuffle Mobile is the latest of several officially licensed Pokemon-themed apps to hit mobile devices in recent years. The Pokemon Company exists as a separate entity from publisher Nintendo, and frequently licenses Pokemon-related properties for use beyond the franchise’s portable console roots.

Released digitally for the Nintendo 3DS earlier this year, Pokemon Shuffle is a free-to-play game that challenges players to collect element-themed critters and battle them against rival monsters in the context of a match-three puzzler. Gameplay takes inspiration from GungHo’s free-to-play hit Puzzle & Dragons, as successful matches will deal damage to enemy characters. Defeated enemies can then be collected and used to level up your party members, giving them an edge in subsequent battles.

While Pokemon Shuffle is available as a free eShop download, players are limited to a small number of gameplay sessions within a specific time period. Additional sessions can be purchased with real money. The Pokemon Company notes that the eShop edition of Pokemon Shuffle has been downloaded more than 4.5 million times since its launch in February.

The Pokemon Company previously released an official Pokedex app for iOS platforms in 2012, followed by similarly themed apps like the mobile activity center Pokemon Camp and the on-demand animated series app Pokemon TV. An online multiplayer adaptation of the Pokemon Trading Card Game premiered for iOS devices in 2014.

Nintendo announced plans to enter the mobile marketplace earlier this year, and notes that “all Nintendo IP will be eligible for development and exploration” via a partnership with mobile publisher DeNA. To date, specific plans for Nintendo-themed apps beyond The Pokemon Company’s offerings have not been announced.

Marvel Snap’s Winterverse event introduces new cards, variants, and more
Marvel Snap art highlights Winterverse variants for Rogue, Ebony Maw, Patriot, and Rockslide.

The latest Marvel Snap update kicks off the Winterverse event, bringing many holiday-themed variants and brand-new cards to the mobile card game.
The two new cards coming to Marvel Snap this week are Darkhawk and Sentry. Darkhawk is a superhero who first emerged in the 1990s and has a techno-organic body with glider wings. In Marvel Snap, he's a 4-Cost, 1-Power Ongoing card that gives +2 Power for each card in the deck of your opponent.
Meanwhile, Sentry is a hero that was introduced in 2000 that has Superman-like abilities, but is connected to an evil entity called the Void that's just as powerful. In-game, that translates to Sentry being a 4-Cost On Reveal card with 8-Power that can't be played at the right location, as playing Sentry will cast a -8 power Void card there.

We don't know if Sentry and Darkhawk are Series 3, Series 4, or Series 5 cards yet. It will take some time for Marvel Snap's meta to evolve and really prove whether or not Darkhawk and Sentry are all that useful, but they do both have interesting abilities. Regardless, keep an eye out for them in Collector's Reserves and in the Token Shop.
They're not the only part of the Winterverse event, though. From December 20 until January 2, Second Dinner is giving away in-game awards for logging in each day. These range from 100 credits to a special Nick Fury card variant featuring Samuel L. Jackson's signature. Five new winter-themed card variants will also start to show up in the shop and Collector's Reserves. You can now find Winterverse cards for Abomination, Ebony Maw, Patriot, Rockslide, and Rogue.
A Winterverse bundle that includes a Sunspot Winterverse Variant, Avatar, 2000 Collector's Tokens, 8000 credits, 100 Sunspot Boosters, and a "Tacos After This?" title will be added to the shop in the coming days as well.
Marvel Snap is available now for iOS, Android, and PC, and it even made Digital Trends' best games of 2022 list.

Following a lengthy period of silence on the matter, Ubisoft has taken to Twitter to announce that Rocksmith+ is receiving a surprise PC release next Tuesday, September 6. The company states that a console release date for the game "will be available at a later time."

Rocksmith+ was initially revealed at the Ubisoft Forward event during E3 2021 and was slated for release in the back half of the year. The game will now launch mere days before this year's Ubisoft Forward livestream, which takes place on September 10.
